Plot[edit | edit source]

Jane and Alec as humans.
A man in a black robe observes a pair of twins playing in the garden of their house. Jane, the older twin, seemingly immobilizes a butterfly trapped in a small cage. He then introduces himself to their mother and makes his acquaintance with the twins, and acknowledges their special gifts. Jane finds him particularly intriguing. The man disappears without a trace right after, to the horror of their mother.

Adolescent Jane and Alec.
Years later, the twins have reached adolescence, but the villagers have grown fearful and hostile towards them because of their gifts. One day, Jane and Alec walk home after playing in the field. Jane wanders off alone to pick flowers for their mother, where she is brutalized by three local boys, causing her to lose control of her power and consciousness. When she comes to, the boys are nowhere to be seen and she is covered in blood, with no recollection of what happened.

The twins being burned at the stake.
The villagers accuse the twins of harming the missing boys and decide that they must rid the village of their wickedness. That night, Jane and Alec are being burned at the stake while their mother is murdered, trying to save them. As the villagers cheer for their execution, Jane, consumed by hatred and anger toward the villagers, begins to slip out of consciousness due to the burning pain while Alec continues to scream. An unexpected sound of horrified screams snaps her awake, and she and Alec see all the villagers suddenly slaughtered before them, and Aro, the man in black from years before, appears before them. Jane grins at his appearance.
The scene ends with Aro rushing at Jane and biting her. Her eyes, fiery blue before, turn to red as her conversion to vampirism begins.
